relations, the Arabs address to each other with hyonymics. The reverse of patronymics. People are not only someone's sons and daughters, but more importantly they are the fathers and mothers of others. If Abu-Hassan means Hassan's father, then I am <b>Abu-Daria<\/b>. And I see everything through this lens. Probably, if I didn't have a child, I would want to spend the second half of my working life differently, not trying to put myself at the service of our society.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, I describe myself as <b>a man of the book<\/b>. I discovered writing when I was 5 years old and have never been bored since. And I've never run out of ideas. That's why I believe in libraries, digital knowledge, transparency, Big Data and everything else in this space.<\/p>\n<p>I believe that the right to knowledge stands as the foundation for the right to expression, the right to vote and run for office, the right to associate. Without the right to knowledge, the other rights become purely formal, instruments of manipulation.<\/p>\n<p>Third, I was <b>taxes<\/b> for about twenty years. And I think the typical entrepreneurial way of thinking, with acknowledging failures and learning from them, with clear metrics, with outward openness, with pleasing the customer as the main mission, with a touch of humility and many hard nights, is essential in politics.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth, I was <b>a civic activist<\/b>. I founded&nbsp;<span style=\"background-color: transparent; color: var( --e-global-color-primary ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-b2ce6af-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-style: var( --e-global-typography-b2ce6af-font-style ); letter-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-b2ce6af-letter-spacing ); text-transform: var( --e-global-typography-b2ce6af-text-transform ); word-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-b2ce6af-word-spacing );\">one of the most active associations in the fight for the rule of law and democracy in Romania.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent; color: var( --e-global-color-primary ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-b2ce6af-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-style: var( --e-global-typography-b2ce6af-font-style ); letter-spacing: var( also one of the 20 Eisenhower Fellows in Romania.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I am now <b>a Member of the Romanian Parliament<\/b>&nbsp;<span style=\"background-color: transparent; color: var( 2020-2024, elected in the Bucharest constituency, with sustained activity in areas such as inclusive education and school feeding, culture and heritage, combating the risk of human trafficking and exploitation among refugees, energy security in the European context and reducing economic dependence on autocracies, measures to protect minors and exclude child abusers from local and national elections, sexual and reproductive rights and many, many other 2021:<\/strong><\/p><p>The amendment brought Romanian tax practice into alignment with European practice and and is applicable from January 1st 2022.<\/p><p>According to estimates made at the time, the change led to a drop of about 11% in the price of e-books and audiobooks.<\/p><p>At the time I wrote the bill, the 5% VAT rate applied only to printed matter, i.e. the supply of \"school textbooks, books, newspapers and magazines, except those intended exclusively or mainly for advertising\", according to the Tax Code. With the adoption of this law, the decreased VAT rate became applicable to all textbooks and books, whether in printed or electronic format.<\/p><p><strong>\u2022 Possibility of redirecting 3.5% of income tax to libraries:<\/strong><\/p><p>Individual taxpayers can redirect 3.5% of their income tax to public libraries.<\/p><p>The Romanian Libraries Act expressly states that libraries may be funded by individuals through donations, sponsorships or other legal sources of income. The bill therefore fills a legislative gap.<\/p><p>In the beginning, only libraries with public status will benefit from this project.
